Retired aged home stay experience – Mr ,Rajan Sukla from Faridabad Hariyana , —

Experience to stay at Rose Kanda (Uttarakhand)

During stay at ROSE Kanda we enjoyed a lot the natural beauty of the place and its spiritual attraction for mental piece. It is said that all glitters is not gold to some extent it is true ,during my way to soap stone mines it is observed that people living in the valley are very poor and their living conditions are also very hazard they can not manage even one day meal. The labour who are engaged in the mining business are suffering from dust allergy and other brancho problems and therefore their life is in danger. The view of the site is very beautiful as depicted in the photos but some pains are also hidden in these pictures. We pray to God for the well being of the people who are in this business, and living in the same odd conditions of the weather of surroundings.

Development Education opportunity through Responsible Rural Tourism.

Home of the teacher (Gurukul) in Rural Tourism for social service volunteering opportunity at

Rose Home Stay Village-Sunargaon , PO-Kanda, District- Bageshwar, State-Uttarakhand, India .

Information about our opportunity, we run this opportunity since 1988 and 32 countries volunteers benefited.

If you can send volunteer we greatly appreciate and warm welcome.

The Home of the Teacher concept embodies one of the earliest learning systems in India’s cultural history, livelihood, lifestyle, unique traditional cooking, community social behavior, ecosystem, education system, socioeconomic relation.

Home of the Teacher, was the place where worldwide volunteers/ students/ pupils/ study and research persons / travelers/ tourists /adventure people/ nature lovers/ wellness interested people/ Indian food lovers / interested in living with Indian family as a family members / interested in helping local people/ willing to support needy community people /families and others come to live with teacher as members of the family, Admission required a formal initiation ceremony through which the pupils left the home of their natural parents for that of the Teacher (Guru), thereby, physical birth in the parents’ home become distinct from spiritual re-birth in the Teacher/Guru’s domain with its discipline of life, dress, diet, study, social and religious practices.

Home of Teacher (Gurukul) continues to the present day as a system of learning and also India’s past with modern times.

  • The Home of Teacher (Gurukul )concept thus has special potential in Increasing Diversity in Tourism / Rural Tourism which is based on India’s diverse cultural heritage and traditional art and craft skills. Virtually all rural tourism sites possess a craft or other traditional skill, based on learning which has been carried forward by teacher/gurus and pupil, disciple, pupil, schoolboy, learner, scholar, fosterling /shishyas .

This attribute can create tourism attractions in every season, foe every interest. Visitors from overseas and within India, including students from schools, Collages or professional institutions can thus enrich their tourism experience or enhance their craft skills by undertaking a Home of the Teacher (Grukul) itinerary.

The Home of the Teacher ( Gurukul) process in Rural voluntary Tourism is based on identification of specially skilled crafts persons and specialists in various mediums , around whom an instructional stay can be structured, including Home-Stay . The learning process would be calibrated for different levels of pupil (shishya) proficiency, visitor time and varying levels of instruction in each course. The essential elements of discipline, dress, diet, study and social practices would be incorporated to provide contextual flavor. To this would be added other visitor attractions of the location such as heritage site, wildlife, indigenous healing system or fairs and festivals. This list is not exhaustive and would be embellished by a variety of site-specific attractions.

Charges– Rs. 30,000/-per person for 2 weeks opportunity with share room, 3 organic veg. local  traditional meal with the host family.

Visitors stay as a family members with adjustment and sharing hands, have since of humor .

Rural Opportunity for Social Elevation (R.O.S.E.) is a small self-help group from the Kanda community in the rural hills of northern India, near the borders of Tibet and Nepal. R.O.S.E. guests stay with local families in home stays, or at a modest guest house owned by local eco-tourism guru Mr. Jeevan Verma. Guests have the opportunity to connect with and give back to the local community through volunteer projects such as home construction, educational programs, organic farming promotion, micro dairy, and other rural development initiatives.

R.O.S.E. is designed specifically to bring travelers and locals together in the pursuit of responsible rural development. The home stays and influx of visitors to this remote area generates employment and income for local families, who also benefit from the projects undertaken by R.O.S.E. volunteers. The owner, Jeevan Verma, runs the R.O.S.E. School for less privileged children, as well as eco development camps, and his company supports local businesses and shops, transporters, craftspersons, guides, micro dairy farms, and community organic producers.

  7.       As a part of our visit,we got an opportunity to visit GGIC Kanda wherein we distributed sanitary pads under our menstrual hygiene awareness programme. We also had the opportunity to try hands on organic farming and also contributed required seeds.

We also got the chance to help the organization by bestowing them with required gadgets and devices for technical upliftment of the organization. We also rendered technical assistance for software improvement. The devices contributed are as follows: earphones, 32GB & 64GB Pendrives, and cable connector.

A cleanliness drive was also conducted at designated places in Kanda to maintain the environmental hygiene. We also interacted with the locals and learnt about the life and culture of people of Kanda as a part of Rural Tourism while staying with the locals and enjoying nature.

Why are village people more happy, healthy, prosperous and enjoy longevity compared to city people?

Village people are happy mainly because most of them do not follow Facebook to constantly compare their lives with those of their friends living abroad or earning a few bucks more.

They are healthy because they eat natural and organic food instead of junk food, work their asses off in fields instead of sitting all day in an air conditioned cubicle, move from place to place by walk and not by swanky bikes or cars, and play physical games and not video games.

They are prosperous because they spend well within their means and mostly on essentials, and do not have credit cards to swipe and splurge money on unwanted gadgets just to look cool.

A Success story of Village Voluntary Tourism at Organic Rose home Stay

My name is Jeevan Lal Verma, I was born in the village of Sunargaon, which is in the Kanda, Bageshwar District of the Kumoan region in Uttarakhand, North India. My family business was in jewellery making, we had a Goldsmiths called Sunar, so our village is called Sunargaon. I studied in Inter college Kanda , ITI Training Almora and National Apprenticeship at Scooters India limited Lucknow after I had finished my studying and visiting life in the city I decided to do social work within my village. I felt called to social work because I had a helping nature, I had always suffered from a lack of money, but my soul told me to serve the local community. I made it my hobby to connect to the whole of the world, so I participated in many training projects, workshops, visits and conferences by the youth leadership and as a social activist.

It was June 1988 when I participated in a workshop where I met some foreign visitors. One was a representative from a Volunteer sending organization; he was looking for a host family. The idea was to host overseas volunteers and help them to engage with work camps in rural development, environmental protection, disaster relief and other activities. I was happy to host international volunteers and accepted the offer.

In August 1988, I hosted eight international volunteers (5 female & 3 male) from different nations. They participated in 15 days home stay, cultural exchange and social & rural development work camps. That was my first experience and it was very successful. My family and the whole community gave the visitors a warm welcome. The community and youth of Kanda participated and my family was very cooperative with hosting the international volunteers, who adjusted very well to our family life. I felt good because the visiting group were very flexible, civilized and had a good sense of humor. It was a valuable exchange because I learnt some skills and increased my knowledge from them.

As this first experience was such a success more volunteers were sent from the organization. All the visitors had tourist visas and when they came to Sunargoan they appreciated the beauty of their natural surroundings as well as sampling unique Kumoan organic local dishes and exchanging cultural activities. There was also the opportunity to engage in local religious (Hindu) Ceremonies and Festivals. In addition there was practical work such as rural development projects, building construction and craft activities which hugely increased the local villages social welfare and rural development.

Some of the volunteers suggested that it would be a better idea to invite future volunteers directly so that I could earn money for the community, which previously would have gone to the volunteer organization. Visitors were then able to connect to me directly from places such as the UK, Holland and the USA and I hosted some volunteers every year. Due to lack of marketing skills and adequate communication equipment sometime the number of visitors were few. However with patience and with new communication equipment I was able to connect to non profit volunteer organizations. I placed an entry detailing this opportunity in an International directory publication. This resulted in more visitors arriving in Sunargoan. At the start of 2000 some of the volunteers published their good experiences in an international magazine.
