Mr Jeevan Verma to empower his village through positive aspects of Tourism.

Rural Organization for Social Empowerment – ROSE is a voluntourism/village tourism organisation started by Mr Jeevan Verma to empower his village through positive aspects of Tourism.

What inspired me?

Jeevan uncle belongs to small village where he is limited by the very little resources he can manage and yet he chooses to push his dream of creating a sustainable future for his village, by managing with what ever government and private resources available to him. He spends hai day learning to use a computer, using social media to promote his work.

His knowledge about animal husbandry and cross breading is phenomenal. He has done notable work in Goat breeding and has been recognised multiple times by the Govt. Of India.

He has an amazing family, where everyone is so connected to each other, they share laughs and they share stories. They had their own problems to deal with but never for once i saw them complain about anything

Opportunities with R.O.S.E.

Voluntourism Activities –

  1. Teaching at local school
  2. Building low cost infrastructure and Sanitation facilitates
  3. Rural resources management and planning

Experience of Mornings in the Village

Every morning, when I perched my head out of the pillow, i opened my bleary eyes, half awake and asleep, the warm feeling of the first light of dawn falling on my face through the window persuaded me to wake up. The sweet sounds of Himalayan Bulbul intermingled with joyful children voices made it even harder to go back to my dreams as the reality seemed more appealing, the musky smell of pine covers, fileds and the fresh cooked breakfast pretermit all the tiredness in my veins, I woke up fresh with a smile every morning.

I would humbly like to ask you to you visit him next time you are in Uttrakhand. Everything we do requires monetary support and so does Gopal Ratna Jeevan Verma, please support his effort by exploring rural tourism with him.

Plenty of studies have been done to prove that volunteering is not just good for the NGO, but has many perks in store for you as well. People who volunteer regularly have been known to live longer and happier, establish healthy relationships and feel more fulfilled. But that’s not all. Volunteering turns out to be one of the cheapest ways to travel, as most NGOs provide room and meals for modest prices during the program. This also paves the way for a rich, cultural experience where you can interact with the locals and learn their way of life.

Moreover, volunteering is known to be great for your career as it provides insight to help make career choices and also find some valuable contacts along the way!

Here are five rewarding volunteer programs you can try out in some of India’s most picturesque regions.

Rural Tourism for Rural Empowerment .

The Verma Model of Rural Upliftment has brought a very positive 40 years for Kanda, a little village in Uttarakhand. What started as a single man’s effort, the seeds sown by Jeevan Lal Verma has helped Kanda garner international attention including research from professors at Center for Tourism and Research – Lucknow, International Center for Mountain Development and Research, Kathmandu apart from researchers from Finland and USA doing their research work.

Kanda has seen visitors from various countries, including the USA, UK and Canada, for community collaboration and volunteer tourism powered by their own ROSE (

Rural Organization For Social Elevation

We at Innovate4India are inspired by such success stories and are soon launching a community for nation building through a Crowdsourcing mechanism.

Development Education opportunity with ROSE Kanda, India

My name is Alice Metcalf and I have visited R.O.S.E for one week as part of a 3-month tour around Asia with my boyfriend, Harry. Last year I graduated with an MA in Global Urban Justice and I have been doing research for a charity in London since then. I found R.O.S.E on the internet and was keen to put some of my skills into practice on the field whilst learning about Hindi culture in rural India.

On arrival, we were both blown away by the scenery and the fresh air! Kanda is an absolutely stunning place – I could never get bored of these views.

My boyfriend is a digital marketing executive so our primary function here has been developing marketing tools and networking with various universities and volunteering coordination organizations. I think that we have made good progress in just one week, but it’s important that someone follows up the leads that we have started. We have also spent some time identifying potential donors who are interested in funding agricultural programs in rural India. Again, it is important that our work is followed up on to ensure that the time we have spent on this has been worthwhile for R.O.S.E. I genuinely believe that Jeevan’s dream of expanding his goat breeding program will be realized – and he deserves every success!

The accommodation is fantastic – we have both been very happy in our room. My only suggestion on how to improve guests’ stay here is to perhaps give them more of an opportunity to get involved in day-to-day life here with the family. We have asked the family if they would like help with any job a number of times, but our offer has rarely been taken up, leaving us feeling pretty guilty when so much hard work is going on around us. That said, today we were taken down to the fields and shown how the land is prepared for a new season of rice growing which was fascinating and excellent fun.

Jeevan has been a fantastic host, really made us feel part of his family and he seems so grateful for the little help that we have given him. We have set up some more crowdfunding pages and will certainly continue to try and fundraise for this fantastic project when we are back in the UK.

Thanks so much for having us, we have both learned
